Members,
As many of you know, work begins next week to refresh our bar offering with the installation of brand-new draught lines — all part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the club remains a vibrant, relevant and welcoming place for everyone.
You’ll also remember from our recent AGM that we’ve been closely monitoring our membership and footfall, both of which have started to plateau. In order for our club to continue to thrive long into the future, we must attract new members — particularly younger generations — and ensure that first impressions count.
Over many months, the Committee, with Liam’s support, have been exploring ways to increase our outward appeal while staying true to what makes us special. One of the ideas we’ve discussed is a light rebrand — a fresh, modern look that helps us better connect with the wider community.
As members will be aware, we launched a survey last week to gather feedback from both members and local residents. We’re delighted to say it’s been really well received, with almost a quarter of our membership having responded so far. The insights shared have been exceptionally valuable, giving us a broader and more representative view of our membership than we typically receive at AGMs.
We’re pleased to report that, of those who responded, there is broad support of this change, including many for whom the name “Rowley Hill Club” holds personal significance. That support has helped guide and confirm our decision.
With that in mind, we’ll be using our short closure next week not just to upgrade the bar but to unveil a new look and a refreshed trading name: The Rowley.
Please be assured, this is not a move away from our values, history or club spirit. We are and always will be a club, and proud of it.
What we’re doing is giving ourselves a more welcoming front door. The Rowley feels fresh, familiar and timeless. It’s how many already refer to us, and it works as well above the door as it does on social media.
Dropping the word “Club” from the name allows us to feel more inclusive and accessible, not closed off or exclusively members-only, which is essential to our long-term survival.
This isn’t about abandoning tradition. It’s about giving it the chance to grow and thrive.
Much like when “Working Men’s” was dropped from our name to become Rowley Hill Club, this change reflects the evolving times we live in and our desire to remain relevant, welcoming and inclusive.
We truly hope you’ll join us in embracing this next chapter and help us share the spirit of The Rowley with a whole new generation.
Warm regards
Liam & The Committee
